Students Get to Work

At the ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, Steve Winn ’64 remarked, "This is a physical structure and its construction is amazing. However, it is sterile and inanimate, until you add the faculty and the boys who will blossom into young men under its stars."

Minutes after the ribbon was cut, the Winn Science Center opened its doors for first period as students and teachers returned from Christmas Break. In just the few days since its opening, Marksmen and their teachers have put the new facility to good use. Mr. Owens leads students in the first round of experiments in the Chemistry Lab. Dr. Balog gives guests a sneak peek of the new planetarium's capabilities. Mr. Mead takes his boys on a tour of the building, beginning with the giant bear skeleton on the first floor. Mrs. Israni's boys continue their micro-safaris, now with individual sinks and workstations available for each lab group. The third-grade class tests out the new seats and desks in the Lecture Hall during their own tour. And quadcopters fly all around the maker space, while Mr. Rummel and his students begin organizing the robotics equipment.

After years of planning, the past few days have been an exciting preview of the incredible learning that the Winn Science Center will foster for generations to come.
